Avoid Employment Scams by Asking These 3 Questions

Avoid Employment Scams by Asking These 3 QuestionsAvoid Employment Scams by Asking These 3 QuestionsWhen youre looking for work, youre likely eager to find an opportunity- and scammers may take advantage of your vulnerability. Because job searching primarily takes place angeschlossen behauptung days, job hunters are at particular risk for falling prey to the employment scams placed by cyber criminals.Fortunately, there are ways to avoid many types of common online employment scams if you know which red flags to notice. Here are three important questions to avoid employment scamsbefore applying to a job online1. Is the job ad asking you to pay a fee to apply? According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), no employer or employment firm should ever ask you to pay a fee in exchange for the promise of a job. That means that if the job ad stipulates that you must submit payment for the guarantee of job placement- or for training materials, certification, or reimbursement for expenses in p lacing you with an employer- be alert that youre probably dealing with a job scam.2. Are you being asked for financial or personal information? Similarly, if youre asked to supply bank account or credit card information either over the phone or online in relation to a promised job, dont give it out. Legitimate employers dont require this information to apply for a job.The same goes for other types of sensitive personal data, such as your social security number or drivers license number. While honest employers may require this type of personal information after you are officially extended a job offer, dont provide it without having a contract in writing that verifies you have a job from a confirmed company.3. Are you being offered a previously undisclosed federal job? If you see an ad that uses the term previously undisclosed in relation to a federal job posting, be wary of a scam. The FTC notes that fake postal jobs are often promised by scammers who advertise onlineandin newspaper classified sections. Cyber crooks will often require a fee to apply for these false listings, so if you see such an offer, steer clear. You can find out about all legitimate federal positions at USAJobs.gov, where they are announced to the public free of charge, or by checking out the Federal Government jobs category on.Job searching can be stressful enough without having to worry about false employment ads, but knowing what to watch out for can help keep you safe from cyber scams. When you come across a shady company or job listing, keep these critical questions handy and review them thoroughly before you proceed.Readers, do you think youve ever encountered employmentscams? 39 Resume Accomplishments Examples to Demonstrate Your Value

39 Resume Accomplishments Examples to Demonstrate Your Value39 Resume Accomplishments Examples to Demonstrate Your ValueResume accomplishments are work achievements performed by a job seeker that are both measurable and unique to their experience. Accomplishments on a resume are different than duties or responsibilities in that duties and responsibilities are virtually the same for any employee in a similar role.Using resume accomplishments in place of responsibilities makes the most out of resume space by showing the hiring manager that you are results-driven and have the drive to go beyond the expected job requirements. Unlike many employees, you actively work to make improvements and create impact within the company. How to Write Resume AccomplishmentsIt can be challenging to sit down and actually lay out your resume accomplishments. Ask yourself a few questions to start generating ideas for your summary of accomplishmentsDid I make or save the company money? If so, exactly how muc h?Did I reach my goals quickly? If so, what was the exact time period?Did I exceed my goals often? If so, to what degree? When answering these questions, think primarily in terms of money and time. High-quality resume accomplishments are quantifiable and measurable. Dollar amounts, timespans, volume, and percentages are all great ways to quantify your accomplishments on a resume.Consider the CAR formula if you get stuck. CAR stands for Challenge, Action, and Result. Every accomplishment should include the problem or challenge, the action you took, and the stellar result of your hard work. You can also invert this formula by leading with the result. Starting a sentence with a dollar figure or percentage will garner more attention.Make sure your accomplishments are taken seriously by including context when possible. Saved $100,000 doesnt mean much on its own. Saved $100,000 year over year is an improvement but still doesnt paint a complete picture. Saved $100,000 YoY, decreasing operat ing budget by 52% is better.Along with measurable results, resume keywords can make resume accomplishments stand out. Reference the job posting to figure out which keywords the hiring manager will be looking for most.Looking for more information on resume accomplishments? What To Do When You Dont Have Numbers for Your AccomplishmentsThe Simple Formula for Identifying Your Key Achievements on a ResumeResume Accomplishments ExamplesMaintained a 97% satisfaction rating over a 24-month period as a customer care representative.Exceeded retail sales goals by an average of 17% every quarter in 2016.Cut data processing time by 50% by building a new cloud data infrastructure, leading to more timely insights.Created a company culture initiative which raised employee satisfaction rates by 25% YoY.Raised employee retention rates by 15% over a 5-year period by implementing a tiered-interview ordnungsprinzip and organizing a minimum of 2 gruppe outings per quarter.Hired and managed a team of 6 dat a scientists to successfully deploy a new data processing platform ahead of schedule.Organized the companys annual international summit, including flights, accommodations, and itineraries for more than 30 attendees.Grew email subscriber list from 300 to 2,000 in 8 months without expanding the monthly budget.Reduced time spent on inventory by 20% by reorganizing physical storage of supplies.Organized quarterly volunteer projects with upwards of 50 volunteers per event.Digitized companys internal microfilm library of more than 5,000 files.Scheduled and staffed coaching sessions for 70 weekly athletics classes.Directed 25 events per year, including complex public events with more than 20,000 attendees.Managed and deployed profitable Facebook ad campaigns with a monthly budget of $20,000.Worked with the CEO to analyze 10+ technology systems in place and worked to consolidate them with 1 new system that encompassed all programs needed to reach geschftliches miteinander needs.Assisted hea d teacher in overseeing and educating 18 students for three months.Created SEO strategy that improved organic search traffic to corporate blog by 58% YoY.Provided exemplary in-home non-medical care for more than 15 senior citizens during my 4-year tenure, for which I won Caregiver of the Month on 4 occasions.Published 6 scholarly articles in esteemed legal online publications on topics related to bankruptcy litigation over a 12-month period.Exceeded partner development sign-on goals by 20% in Q1 2018.As the companys primary sales representative, I expanded the start-ups client base by 60% in a 3-month period.Collected and analyzed 10 different types of bacteria from the Kenyan Wetlands of Lake Nakuru.Implemented a bi-weekly meeting with 9 other department heads to discuss goals, updates, and challenges, increasing productivity across departments by 20% YoY.Developed a comprehensive student submission system for final exam projects in the Universitys online portal, accessible by more than 3,000 students.Increased shipping times by 100% by implementing computerized inventory and ticketing systems.Created a 20-page training manual from scratch and led bi-weekly training sessions for new tour guides.Performed an average of 15 real estate showings per week on upscale properties worth between $700,000 and $2 million.Gave final approval on more than 50 pieces of new curriculum in the foreign languages department during the Spring semester 2017.Implemented company-wide work from home policy, resulting in a 87% increase in employee satisfaction, a 21% increase in productivity, and a 38% decrease in PTO usage.Went above my duties as office administrator to implement a filing system for philanthropisch resources, organizing more than 300 past and current employee documents.Chosen for team lead on 15 design projects in 2016, 30% more projects led than any other team members.Received 2 promotions, from co-management to director-level, in less than 12-months.Facilitated the opening of 250 new customer bank accounts in 2015.Created 32 new blog posts, eBooks, and landing pages, making up 30% of the companys online content.Headed up a laboratory sleep study with 5 other research scientists in which we studied 25 participants with sleep apnea.Set up and trained staff of 15 on how to use Microsoft Azure platform for cloud computing purposes.Grew working capital by 30% in 6 months, allowing the company to take advantage of better resources for continued growth.Reimagined business development strategy to include a 20% increase in sales force, resulting in $550M in increased profits YoY.Steered company through a complicated re-organization, resulting in a 75% increase in profits with minimal employee turnover.Check for Accomplishments on Your ResumeWant to test your resume for accomplishments and measurable results? Peak-end rule Why you make terrible life choices

Peak-end rule Why you make terrible life choicesPeak-end rule Why you make terrible life choicesIts New Years Eve. There I am on the dance floor its teeming with people and theres hardly space to breathe. Loud thumping music pierces my eardrums and I have no idea where my friends are. Then, the guy next to me takes a misstep, spills an entire cup of beer down my shoulder. I gasp as the cold brew winds its way down my back. But hes too drunk and the music is too loud for him to notice. Is this supposed to be fun? What am I doing here? I hail a ride to get out of there. At home, after wringing out my shirt and getting ready for bed, I take a minute to pull up my phone and glance at my Instagram stories. There I see the plate of chocolate cake from the dinner with friends that started the evening. That welches delicious. Next, were raising a glass to the New Year. That champagne was phenomenal. Then, were toasting at the bar. That was fun Next, I see us grooving and laughing on the dance f loor. Wow, that was a great time Why did I leave such a fun partey? We have to do this again next New Years EveWait What just happened??How did my perception of the night change so dramatically? I had unknowingly been influenced by the peak-end rule, a cognitive bias among a long list of shortcuts ur brain takes in shaping ur behavior and memories. The peak-end rule says we dont remember experiences accurately. Rather, we tend to recall the highlights and how things end. By rewatching my Instagram stories at the end of the night, I reinforced the highlights from my night out. I didnt recall the sucky stuff so I ended up thinking I had a great time. When in reality I was mildly miserable for most of it.How does it work? Our brains dont have the capacity to remember everything. Evolutionarily, it makes sense for us to only keep the memories that most aided our survival. Remembering the most painful and pleasurable moments helped us avoid them or seek them out in the future. For a cavema n, finding a berry that made him sick was worth remembering more than a berry that was just so-so like all the rest. Therefore, we economize our memories by prioritizing two types of moments to create snapshot memories - peak moments and end moments.Peak momentsWe tend to recall the most intense events most easily. This applies to both positive and negative memories. For example, in one study, when Red Sox fans were asked to recall a game they watched, they tended to remember the best game that they had ever seen.Think back to the last time you went to an amusement park. You probably remember the wild ride down the coaster or the amazing funnel cake you gorged on. Now think a little harder. You probably stood in line for 30 minutes for a ride that lasted all of 30 seconds and paid $9 for that funnel cake, but thats probably not what first came to mind.End momentsWe tend to remember events differently depending on how they end. In a classic experiment, patients were asked to rate th e pain of undergoing a colonoscopy as they endured it. The researchers found that the colonoscopies varied in duration and pain intensity for different patients. Then they asked patients questions regarding their memories of the experience.Guess which of the two patients, Patient A or Patient B, remembered their procedure as more painful?Since getting a colonoscopy isnt the highlight of anyones day, one would expect that Patient A who got the procedure over with more quickly would remember it as less painful than Patient B who had a more drawn out experience. However, thats not what the study found. In fact, researchers found that duration did not affect the memory of how painful the procedure was. Rather, the peak intensity of the pain as well as the level of pain recorded during the last three minutes of the procedure were the biggest determinants of the memories people formed. That is to say, by ending the procedure with a lower pain intensity, essentially leaving the scope in peo ples butts a little longer, made them recall the experience as less painful. This study not only has profound implications for potentially life-saving medical procedures, but also applies to our everyday lives. How to use the peak-end rule to your advantageNow that we understand why and how this cognitive bias works, we can use it to our advantage.1. End on a high noteTo make better memories, always consider how you will end an experience. For example, in one study, researchers found that the order which people opened presents affected their memories of the occasion. People who opened the lousiest gifts first and worked their way up to something they loved, reported being much happier than those who opened the best gift first and had to work their way down. You can put this insight to use when planning a special event like a date or party. Reserve the best and most fun moments towards the end of the event so everyone walks away with warm fuzzy feelingsYou can also use the peak-end rul e for your health. Researchers found that by ending an exercise at lower intensity, people were more likely to feel positive about the experience and were more likely to look forward to future sessions.2. More peaks, more memoriesStudies show we remember moments of intense pleasure, even if those moments are sparse, more hintergrundly than experiences where we are mildly comfortable throughout. If youre a homebody, chances are you enjoy staying in on a day off. Trouble is, you likely wont be making many fond memories while sitting on the couch even though youll be mildly comfy and entertained.Rather, getting out there, even if it hurts, can create lasting memories if it leads to an intense payoff. Chances are, heading out to see a spectacular sunset with friends on a mountain ridge will stay with you for a lifetime, while youll soon forget the hours crammed in a car or the grueling hike to get there.3. Small bursts will doThe peak-end rule also shows us we dont need an experience to be long to make a positive memory. For example, planning a vacation, an intense ski day trip full of high intensity bursts of excitement, may make as many positive memories as a week away at some far off exotic destination with less to do.The same goes for how we enjoy our meals. Researchers found people remembered small portions of their favorite dishes as fondly as eating larger portions. So if youre watching your waistline, treating yourself to smaller portions of your favorite foods may help you avoid eating more than you need while still providing fun.The peak-end rule serves a key evolutionary purpose it helps us avoid devoting more brain capacity to memories we dont need. Knowing about this cognitive quirk helps us use it to our advantage. By seeking out and crafting certain experiences, we can create better memories to collect over many New Years Eves to come.Nirs Note This post part of a series on cognitive bias co-authored with and illustrated by Lakshmi Mani. Discover ot her reasons you make terrible life choices like confirmation bias, hyperbolic discounting and distinction bias. This article firstappeared on Nir Far.
